NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Tuesday announced that Jio has crossed 100 million customers mark 170 days after its launch on September 5, 2016. Jio has added on an average 7 customers every single second of every single day.
“Today is a historic day. Jio launched services on Sep 5 and just 170 days later it has crossed 100 million customer mark on its 4G LTE all-IP wireless broadband network…A heartfelt thank you to each of us. This milestone belongs to you,” said Ambani.
Jio Chairman added that Jio has about 60000 employees with lakhs of tech partners and retail partners.
Reliance Jio, which commercially launched operations on September 5, 2016, disrupted the Indian telecom industry with its ‘Welcome’ and ‘Happy New Year’ offer. The offer with its free voice and data services along with access its digital content ecosystem, had forced incumbents to slash tariffs.
With an addition of about half a million subscribers a day, Jio added customers faster than global majors such as Facebook, Whatsapp and Skype, claimed Ambani. The validity of the current Happy New Year offer would get over on March 3rd.

The 4G telecom operator that launched its services, after at least five years since inception has been steadily getting money infused from the parent group. In January, Reliance Industries pumped in Rs 30,000 crore to fuel its digital expansion and enhance network coverage and capacity. This is in addition to the Rs 1,71,000 crore the group has already invested in the telecom arm in the last so far.
